The Big Blue Retreat is a perfect location to base yourself, come and enjoy a seaside holiday in this ideal beach house.

Garden Island Sands

Garden Island Sands is located in the Huon Valley, 50 minutes drive (60 kms/38 miles), south of Tasmania's capital city - Hobart. Garden Island Sands is a quiet hamlet within Garden Island Creek, it has a great holiday atmosphere located between the D'Entrecasteaux Channel and the mouth of the Huon River.

Garden Island Sands has no through traffic. The beach is a level 100 metre walk away from your front door. It is a safe swimming beach, perfect for the children as it is so shallow. A beach launch ramp is available, or there is a deep water ramp in the next bay over - so do not hesitate to bring your boat there is ample parking on site.

Fishing, kayaking, swimming and lazing around are just some of the activities you can enjoy.

The nearest town is an easy 15 minutes drive away (12 kms).
Cygnet , 'Port des Cygnes' (Port Cygnet) was originally named by the French explorer Bruni D'Entrecasteaux in 1793.

Once an important apple growing town, now it is the centre of an alternative lifestyle community with established woodturning, wholefood shops and craft activities. Take a day to explore the Cygnet Art Trail:

Tasmania is Australia's only island state and has a population of approximately 488,000. Tasmania's climate is classified as 'temperate maritime' and is cooler than the mainland states. We have mild summers and cold winters, with average maximum summer temperatures of 21 C, and average maximum winter temperatures of 12 C. Many of the mountain regions receive winter snowfalls.

Much of Tasmania remains untouched by human habitation, protected as the Tasmania Wilderness World Heritage Area. This is one of Tasmania's greatest attractions, every year thousands of tourists come here to explore its national parks and trek some of the most rugged and scenic trails in the world.
